Artificial intelligence is the name given to technology designed to mimic human intelligence processes. Why is AI necessary? The ever-increasing amount of data being generated by both humans and machines far exceeds humans’ ability to interpret, engage in complex decision making about, and process that data. Computers are more efficient at making calculations, predictions, and comparisons of large data sets than humans are. Given the advantages of speed and accuracy that AI can offer, it is no wonder that it has become widely incorporated into nearly every industry. Artificial intelligence is often supported by machine learning (ML) algorithms and models as well as deep learning. Machine learning provides statistical methods that allow AI to automatically learn from previous experiences. The data used in ML algorithms and models provides the foundation for the way an AI behaves. Deep learning is a subset of ML composed of deeply multi-layered neural networks that perform tasks like speech and image recognition. Together, these systems give users the ability to supplement their own abilities with the power of intelligent systems.
